Despite the misty weather which bordered on monsoons on occasion, the 5th Annual Derby was once again held on the first weekend following August 13th. There was a record turnout of fishermen, coming from distances of Casper, Wyoming, Fairbanks, and Anchorage to fish the derby and enjoy the comrade of the the Hole In The Wall. Three generations of the Harrington family fished the derby this year.
It came as no surprise, but once again the Master stepped forward and before fishing began, while sitting around the fire pit enjoying a pre-dawn cup of coffee, he informed the others in the fishing party that they would need at least a Seventeen (17) pound Silver Salmon to win the Derby.
It is doubtful that the Silver Salmon that won the Derby this year will ever be matched as it was perhaps a record Silver Salmon for Anchor River. My limited personal knowledge of plus fifty years, I have never seen a Silver Salmon this large that was actually weighed from the Anchor River.

Did I ever tell you about the 72 Pound King Salmon that I caught?
What a great looking crew. You and Shane, save a few silvers for me to catch.
I'll send you some pics of your monster catch AFTER the bones beside the row of 10 pounders.
Yours measured approx. 23" WITHOUT the head!
Nice catch....
The traditonal blue satin bag of gold coins was deleivered to me this evening, in addition to several new gold coin releases and a early model silver dollar. The bag is all mine, mine, mine ~ at least until the first weekend following August 13, 2009.
