The Grand Poopah

This should serve notice, don't mess
with those that soar above you, seeing all and knowing all.
Fearing none, whether they crawl on all fours or attempt
to soar with the Eagle,
If you mess with the Eagle Clan
You can expect to be plucked!

Lonesome Duck
Soon the infamous Lonesome Duck Ranch of Colorado will provide shelter, the comforts of home and hearth to another Harrington resident.
Watch for future blog updates from the original Duck House.

All things in light

da' plumma saw that truck on another blog - wait! was it
iditaroad? amazing how we forgetfully repeat our patterns.

This should be enough tp for all the crap on this blog, though -
as well as coverage for the summer of '08.
* Doesn't he sound a bit grouchy? I think JD owes $10.00! Heidi
*I really think he should pay $10.00 for not posting a picture where he indicated a picture should go. Do you realize how much paper would have been wasted if we were typing on paper and not the internet. Paper is expensive and perhaps this summer we should restrict the TP to one square per person per day in order to conserve our natural resources. Each daily ration could be washed out, dried and reused several times! Stan

Good News

Today, we discovered that "Butch"and "Sundance" have moved out of the HITW for the winter. "Crackers" has always lived at our house, but a few days ago her two relatives have moved in for the winter. They are smarter than the average fur bearer. They live under our front deck, where I assume they have some great breeding nests made. However, they have taken the time to drill three holes through the snow leading up to the surface of the deck. One hole is by the hot tub, the second on the west end of the deck and the third hole is directly beneath the birdy feeder. They can pop up just about anywhere, but they prefer the "feeder hole" as they like to scare the birds. They pop up, scare the birds, have their fill on sunflower seeds and disappear again. They are smart, just a few months ago I had to teach them that there was a nut inside the peanut shell, now they have figured out the sunflower seed. Currently, we are going through about ten pounds of sunflower seeds a week to keep the birds and furry friends fed for the winter. But that is O.K.

Winter In The Hole

Mid winter has set into the Hole In The Wall Recreational Area.
It awaits to waken in the spring with the sound of the little ones playing in the
alders and on the sand hill.
The Fire Pit is covered, the Gazebo still standing under the stress
of the heavy snows, waiting for the sound of laughter and stories being
told around the fire of popping firewood.
Soon, it will be time for it to come to life, fresh flowers being planted
in areas that flowers have never grown.
The development of the area has been slow, however, compared
to the waste dump of tree stumps and trash that filled the area
three years ago. It now holds memories of fun times and new found friends
which the little ones will carry forward in their lives.
With time, improvements will be made, but they will never be completed
as there will always be another project to complete,
just like another memory to cherish.
Perhaps, some day four cabins will be standing in place
and the Christmas tree in the foreground will be brightly lighted
as we celebrate a Christmas at the Hole In the Wall.

So here is the slide show of the photos I took last Memorial Weekend. They are not of the best quality because they were taken off of my Ipod. I will have the originals out shortly!
Just working with these photos made me miss the upcoming weekend and the fun to be had. I hope these photos bring back the happy memories had by all!

Annual "Picture Of The Year" Award

During the course of the summer months, several thousand pictures were snapped at the Hole In The Wall Recreational Area by several photographers. The panel has reviewed the majority of these shots to determine the 1st Annual Photo of the Year award. This particular picture was chosen for content in that it represents several attributes in which the recreational area was intended. Those being: (1) Building Friendships (2) Bonding (3) Establishing Memories (4) Uniting As a Family and (5) Sharing.

I am sure all of you remember this young couple and fun that we had in watching them develop their friendship, sharing a chair, giving each other rides, and sharing marshmallows around the fire pit. In their own innocent way they demonstrated each of the five primary goals of the HITW. Although, they are not related, they were instrumental in making a family member feel welcomed around our fire pit. We hope to see more of Tad this next year.

The award of the "Golden Roll of Film" would be bestowed upon the photographer, however, the committee does not know which one of three photographers took the picture. There is a series of these shots, if the photographer could post each of them on this site I would appreciate it. This is the only shot in this series that I have in my achieves.

The Case

Although seemingly
rough and ...........inexpensive,
a case was .................presented to the
Grand Poopa on................... Christmas day -
(due to the fact .....................
he was in LA,
we saved a ........................lot in postage)
- that is a gift ......................to every clans'
members as......................... a whole. It

looked a lot .........................- ok, a little
- like the box ...........................pictured above.
A lot of the hollow, molded plastic inside had to
be removed (and the saw, as well) to make enough
space for what is inside at the present. Two (2) combin-
ation locks were placed on the case when it was full and
closed for the last time until Memorial Day weekend
at our favorite recre
ational site in this great state. The
case is in the safe custody of the Eagle chief (and her

husband) and will be opened when all clan members
(of availability) are present in the Hole in The Wall,
and the combinations have been discovered. You
can rest assured that the contents will be helpful
to all clans and is multi-purposeful at least. The
only advantage the Eagles have, at this point
in time, is the locks (on case) to try combos
on until we convene at the pit. I feel it only
fair to give all clans the same advantage
at working on the numbers and, here, have

found a four-digit tumbler for you to
practice the combinations before
the meeting of the clans.

click to practice:

(not the actual lock - only a representation)

You may, now arrange these digits, using single
digits from 0 - 9 in each place with a zero, in any
combination as you would a tumbler until you
feel you have the numbers and the right line-up
is achieved. With 20,000 different possible
combinations to both locks, it should take you
(and the Eagles) 'til summer to guess both.
Keep the case dry and secure, Grand Poopa.

Be aware that tampering with the case in any
way may "set" off reactions a bit early, and
might not be in your best interest.

see you at the pit
