Today, we discovered that "Butch"and "Sundance" have moved out of the HITW for the winter. "Crackers" has always lived at our house, but a few days ago her two relatives have moved in for the winter. They are smarter than the average fur bearer. They live under our front deck, where I assume they have some great breeding nests made. However, they have taken the time to drill three holes through the snow leading up to the surface of the deck. One hole is by the hot tub, the second on the west end of the deck and the third hole is directly beneath the birdy feeder. They can pop up just about anywhere, but they prefer the "feeder hole" as they like to scare the birds. They pop up, scare the birds, have their fill on sunflower seeds and disappear again. They are smart, just a few months ago I had to teach them that there was a nut inside the peanut shell, now they have figured out the sunflower seed. Currently, we are going through about ten pounds of sunflower seeds a week to keep the birds and furry friends fed for the winter. But that is O.K.
