It is now time for the quiz that I promised following Day 3 construction. Part of the materials for this project included forty (40) pounds of nails, to build the the Gazebo as well as re-stock my supply bins. How many nails were utilized in the construction phase to date?

If you enlarge the construction photos by clicking on them, you will get a much better concept and view of the advanced technology in wood frame construction.

Hey, this design is self created, then adjusted onthe job site to compensate for foundation being out of square and under estimate of matrerial, first I loose my construction trailer, now Ihave lost my construction truck, something about a trip to LA - but it will be completed!

One could assume - being structural framework - the nails used were "16 penny", or, 16d (wire)nails being 3 1/2" in length. 49 of the said nails to make one pound, therefore, 1960 nails were used to construct and re-fill the supply bins.

Congratulations Plumma, you are the only one to take a guess on the number of nails. You had the number of nails per pound calculated pretty close,it is actually 51 nails per pound for 16 penny - however your toal "nail usage" was off a touch. A total of 5 nails were used for the frame - god bless the person who invented sheet rock screws! Now you just have to find where I used five nails! Anothere great tool evreyone should have is a roto tool - great for pre-drilling 2x4 and 2x6 prior to wearing yourself out on a screw gun. Knowing our group, I figure someone would come with the concept that it should be moved someday - so I wanted to make it easy to tear down and rebuild. One should always look ahead.

Good thinking ahead, Stan. The nail weight and measures information was received from one manufacturer in the U.S. of A. Of course, there are variable allowances to every rule.

whatdoiwin??!!
